Brake Questions
How much does brake repair cost in Ottawa?
It depends on the vehicle and which parts are worn. We quote labour from the table above plus parts for your exact vehicle, in writing, before any work.
How often should pads be replaced?
Typically every 50,000 to 70,000 km, but city driving and winter salt shorten that. We measure pads at every oil change so you know in advance.
Do I need new rotors with new pads?
Not always. If rotors are above the minimum thickness and not warped, they can be cleaned or resurfaced. We measure and tell you.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Every two to three years. Fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point and corrodes the system from inside.
Ceramic or semi-metallic pads?
Ceramic pads are quieter and cleaner; semi-metallic bite harder and handle heat better. We recommend based on your vehicle and how you drive.
How long does brake service take?
Pads and rotors on one axle take about one to two hours. Most brake jobs are done the same day.
Is it safe to drive with grinding brakes?
No. Grinding means the pad material is gone. Continuing to drive damages rotors and calipers and lengthens stopping distance.
