Winter, All-Weather, All-Season or All-Terrain?
Winter tires carry the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol and use a compound that stays soft in the cold. In Ottawa, where temperatures sit below 7 °C for months, they are the right choice for most drivers from November to April.
All-weather tires also carry the snowflake symbol but are built to run year-round. They are a reasonable compromise if you cannot store a second set, with a trade-off in deep-snow grip and tread life.
All-season tires are marked M+S only. Despite the name, they harden in cold weather and are best treated as three-season tires here.
All-terrain tires suit trucks and SUVs that see gravel, cottage roads or job sites. Many are snowflake-rated; check before you buy.
Ontario insurers must offer a discount for winter tires. Ask your insurer once your winter set is installed.
Tire Guides
Cards for each guide page under /tires/. Suggested first six: a Michelin winter tire, a Bridgestone winter tire, a Nokian or Continental all-weather, a Goodyear or Toyo all-terrain, a budget winter brand you stock, and a used-tire buying guide.
Manufacturer Rebates
Brands run rebate programs several times a year, usually on sets of four. We handle the paperwork and tell you the claim deadline. See what is running now at /specials/.
Tire Questions We Hear Most
Which brands do you carry?
We order from distributors who carry all major brands, so we are not limited to one or two. Tell us your budget and how you drive, and we will suggest two or three options.
Do you keep tires in stock?
We stock a selection of quality used tires and common sizes. New tires are usually ordered for next-day arrival.
When should I switch to winter tires?
When daytime highs stay below 7 °C, typically late October to mid-November in Ottawa. Switch back when spring temperatures stay above 7 °C.
Do I need winter tires by law in Ontario?
No. Ontario does not mandate winter tires, but insurers must offer a discount if you use them.
Can I replace just one tire?
Often yes on a two-wheel-drive vehicle if the others have similar tread. On all-wheel-drive vehicles, mismatched tread can damage the drivetrain; we will measure and advise.
Do you store tires?
Yes. See /services/seasonal-tire-changeover-storage/ for pricing and how it works.
What does an installed quote include?
Tires, mounting, balancing, new valve stems or TPMS service kits, and disposal of your old tires. No surprises on the invoice.

Not Sure Which Tire You Need?
